50th ANNIVERSARY
50 Years Preserving Uruguay's Natural and Historical Heritage
Fifty years ago, the Army Parks Service was created with the mission of preserving some of Uruguay's most valuable natural and historical treasures. Since then, thousands of hectares of forests, coastal landscapes, protected areas and historic monuments have been carefully safeguarded through the dedication of generations of personnel committed to conservation.
Santa Teresa National Park stands as the finest example of this mission. Here, nature, history and culture come together to offer visitors from Uruguay and around the world an exceptional destination where heritage can be discovered and enjoyed responsibly throughout the year.
On June 26, 2026, the Army Parks Service commemorated its 50th anniversary with a ceremony held at the Santa Teresa National Park headquarters. During the event, recognition was given to retired personnel and members who served in the 2024–2025 United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
A commemorative plaque was unveiled, and the Uruguayan Postal Service officially issued a special commemorative stamp honoring five decades of continuous service.
This anniversary represents far more than an institutional milestone. It celebrates fifty years of dedication to protecting Uruguay's natural, historical and cultural heritage for the benefit of present and future generations.
